Theology Formation Programme for the Laity<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Originally requested by a small group of interested lay people, we have since June 2013 started teaching theology to lay people in Kuching who seriously wish to undertake a systematic reflection of theological issues but have no where to go to do so. Upon request, we have also accepted a class in Sibu to begin early May 2015.<\/p>\n<p>An ideal class size is 15 people. A preferred range is 12 to 20.<\/p>\n<p>Three courses are now on offer, and more will be added upon request.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">[1] <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Christology<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Course Aim: To appreciate the tremendous significance and implications of the true humanity of Jesus the Christ in Scriptures, tradition and Christological reflections from the early Church to contemporary times.<\/p>\n<p>Course length: 12 lectures of 2 hours each<\/p>\n<p>Contents: 7 chapters in 3 parts<\/p>\n<p>Part I:\u00a0The identity-question of Jesus of Nazareth<\/p>\n<p>1. Introduction: What does it mean to follow Jesus? An initial question; the four gospel-portraits of Jesus of Nazareth.<\/p>\n<p>2. Retrospection and the inner dynamism of faith.<\/p>\n<p>3. The lasting significance of Nicaea and Chalcedon.<\/p>\n<p>Part II:\u00a0The salvation-question of Jesus the Christ<\/p>\n<p>4. Salvation by ransom, penal substitution and satisfaction.<\/p>\n<p>5. Salvation by love, non-violence and positive non-acceptance.<\/p>\n<p>Part III:\u00a0Gospel markers of the person, life, and ministry of Jesus of Nazareth for the work of Kingdom-advancement of Christian disciples.<\/p>\n<p>6. Introduction; Jesus and the Kingdom of God.<\/p>\n<p>2. Part I: Ministry in Galilee.<\/p>\n<p>3. Part II: On the Way to Jerusalem and Discipleship Teaching.<\/p>\n<p>4. Retreats and Seminars<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>We have been conducting retreats and seminars based on our existing modules as well as going to the drawing board to design programmes on request. Some of the modules which are still current include the following:<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">[1]<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"> The Prodigal Son Retreat<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The current module was first designed together with Archbishop John Ha, Kuching, Sarawak. Inspired initially by Fr. Henri Nouwen\u2019s book titled \u201cThe Return of the Prodigal Son,\u201d it is based on the Parable of the Prodigal Son in Luke 15, Rembrandt\u2019s classic painting, and personal experiences and reflections.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The retreat time-table may be adjusted according to whether it is a lived-in or non-lived-in weekend.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The programme begins with Bible Enthronement on a Friday evening at 8:00 PM followed by \u201cAn Introductory Talk\u201d and ends on Sunday afternoon at around 3:30 PM after a \u201cService of the Cross &amp; Resurrection\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Saturday begins with Mass. Two talks in the morning focus on the Younger Son and two talks in the afternoon focus on the Elder Son. The evening is taken up by Holy Hour, Benediction and Confessions.<\/p>\n<p>Sunday begins with Mass. Two talks in the morning focus on the Father figure. The retreat concludes with a Service on the Cross and Resurrection in the afternoon.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Note<\/span><\/span>: The Retreat Team normally comprises Archbishop John Ha, Angie &amp; Jeff Goh, except where Archbishop Ha is unavailable in which event a member of the local clergy may be invited to <span style=\"color: #000000;\">make up the team. To include Archbishop Ha, please apply early, certainly before the end of each calendar year, for possible inclusion in the following calendar year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">[2] <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Living the Gospel<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Type of programme: \u00a0A seminar.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Focus: St Paul\u2019s First Letter to the Corinthians as a perennially serious and often painful challenge and at times a rude wake up call towards authentic discipleship and truthful community.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Duration: Three half days, usually a Saturday morning and afternoon, and a Sunday morning.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Contents: <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">[I] Introduction &#8211; conversion and commitment to discipleship. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">[II] Knowing God, Belonging to Christ \u2013 problem of Factions in the Faith Community.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">[III] Belonging to Christ in an Unbelieving Society &#8211; Sexual Immorality \u2013 Problems of Incest; Going to Prostitutes; Taking Brothers to Court; Marriage or Celibacy; Eating Meat Offered to Idols.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">[IV] Belonging to Christ in a Believing Community \u2013 Problems of The Lord\u2019s Supper; Spiritual Gifts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">[V] Hoping in God, the \u201cAll in All\u201d \u2013 Problem of Resurrection of the Body.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">[3]<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"> Biblical Spirituality Seminar for Couples<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Type of programme: \u00a0A seminar.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Focus: Couple spirituality, drawn from the Bible and lots of real life stories.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Duration: Three half days, usually a Saturday morning and afternoon, and a Sunday morning, with two input sessions each.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Contents: <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">1: Male &amp; Female He Created Them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">2.
